Former Australian captain Michael Clarke has endorsed Indian pacer Akash Deep’s plan to exploit Travis Head’s susceptibility to short-pitched deliveries in the upcoming fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, starting December 26.
Head has been in exceptional form, scoring consecutive centuries in the second and third Tests of the series. Akash Deep recently stated that the Indian bowlers intend to prevent Head from settling by targeting specific areas, particularly with short balls, to induce mistakes.
Clarke views this tactic as a psychological maneuver to unsettle Head. He remarked, “I don’t mind them coming out and saying that just to put it in Travis Head’s mind.” Clarke praised Head’s aggressive approach, noting that he capitalizes on older balls and plays confidently. He emphasized that India’s focus should be on dismissing Head rather than merely containing his scoring, warning that if Head surpasses the 40-50 run mark, he has the capability to convert it into a substantial century.
As the series stands evenly poised, the forthcoming Test in Melbourne is crucial for both teams. India’s strategy against Head could significantly influence the match’s outcome.
