Dense Fog Delays 14 Trains in North India; Delhi Records Highest December Rainfall in 15 Years

Thick fog and poor visibility disrupted train services across northern India on Saturday, with delays reported for 14 trains. The delay times ranged from 30 minutes to over two hours, significantly affecting railway operations amid ongoing cold wave conditions.

List of Affected Trains and Delays

Here’s the delay time for some of the major trains:

  • Gorakhdham Express: 91 minutes
  • Kaifiyat Express: 37 minutes
  • Vikramshila Express: 50 minutes
  • S Kranti Superfast Express: 30 minutes
  • AP Express: 97 minutes
  • Gondwana SF Express: 138 minutes

The northern railway regions, especially those affected by dense fog, have seen consistent disruptions over the past few days, with delay times frequently exceeding an hour for several trains.

Delhi Weather Update

In Delhi, the day began with overcast skies and light rain, as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A yellow alert was issued due to cold wave conditions. The minimum temperature recorded was 12.7°C, six degrees above the seasonal average, while the maximum temperature was expected to settle at 16°C.

Delhi also recorded its highest December rainfall in 15 years, with 42.1 mm of rain measured in the last 24 hours.

Air Quality Improvement

Amid the wet weather, the city witnessed a significant improvement in air quality. The Air Quality Index (AQI) moved from the ‘very poor’ category to ‘moderate.’ At 9 a.m. on Saturday, the AQI was recorded at 152, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
