Allu Arjun’s “Pushpa 2: The Rule” continues its remarkable box office journey, amassing a global gross of Rs.1,719.5 crore within 23 days of release. This achievement positions the film just ₹69 crore shy of surpassing “Baahubali 2,” which grossed ₹1,788 crore worldwide.
Domestic Box Office Performance
In India, “Pushpa 2” has garnered a net collection of approximately ₹1,128.85 crore across all languages. On its 23rd day, the film earned around ₹8.75 crore, with contributions from Hindi (₹6.5 crore), Telugu (₹1.91 crore), and Tamil and Kannada (₹30 lakh).
Factors Contributing to Success
The film’s success can be attributed to its engaging storyline, impressive performances, and the popularity of its lead stars, including Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil. Despite facing competition from new releases, “Pushpa 2” has maintained a steady performance at the box office.
Controversy Surrounding the Film’s Release
The film’s release was marred by a tragic incident at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre during a special screening attended by Allu Arjun. A stampede resulted in the death of a 35-year-old woman and critical injuries to her 8-year-old son. Following the incident, Allu Arjun and members of his security team were arrested on charges including culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The Telangana High Court granted Arjun interim bail, and he was released from jail on December 14. As of December 27, 2024, Allu Arjun appeared virtually before a local court in connection with the ongoing proceedings related to the Sandhya Theatre stampede case. The court has posted his bail plea to December 30.
“Pushpa 2: The Rule” is on the verge of becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time, with its box office collections rapidly approaching the record set by “Baahubali 2.” However, the film’s success has been overshadowed by the tragic incident at Sandhya Theatre, and the legal proceedings involving its lead actor, Allu Arjun, continue to unfold.
