The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its initial roster of 29 candidates for the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 2025. Notably, Parvesh Verma, former West Delhi MP, will contest against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency.
In Kalkaji, ex-South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri will face off against Chief Minister Atishi. Additionally, former AAP minister Kailash Gahlot, who joined the BJP in November 2023, has been nominated for the Bijwasan seat.
Other prominent candidates include Dushyant Gautam in Karol Bagh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa in Rajouri Garden, and Arvinder Singh Lovely in Gandhi Nagar. Satish Upadhyay, former Delhi BJP president, will contest from Malviya Nagar.
In the 2020 elections, AAP secured a decisive victory, winning 62 out of 70 seats. As the 2025 elections approach, both AAP and BJP are intensifying their campaigns, with the BJP aiming to unseat the incumbent AAP government.
The announcement of candidates has already sparked a war of words between the two parties. Arvind Kejriwal has accused the BJP of attempting to manipulate voter lists in the New Delhi constituency, alleging an unusual surge in voter addition and deletion applications. The BJP has dismissed these claims, asserting that Kejriwal is trying to create confusion among voters due to fear of losing the upcoming elections.
As the election date approaches, the political landscape in Delhi is becoming increasingly charged, with both major parties gearing up for a fierce battle.
