In a bold move ahead of the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, Parvesh Verma, the BJP’s candidate for the New Delhi constituency, issued a challenge to his AAP rival, Arvind Kejriwal. Verma, a former Member of Parliament for West Delhi, expressed hope that Kejriwal, who currently represents New Delhi, would not “run away” from contesting the seat.
The BJP released its first list of candidates on Saturday, naming Verma to take on Kejriwal in the high-profile New Delhi constituency. During a media interaction, Verma said, “I want to take all the people of Delhi to see Sheesh Mahal. I am writing a letter to CM Atishi to open the doors of Sheesh Mahal because the people of Delhi deserve to know where their tax money has gone.” He also announced plans to set up a camp in New Delhi to provide employment letters to local residents.
In the same list of candidates, the BJP has fielded former MP Ramesh Bidhuri to contest against Delhi’s Chief Minister Atishi in the Kalkaji constituency. Atishi, responding to the candidacy, pointed out that despite his decade-long tenure as an MP, the BJP did not consider Bidhuri worthy of contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. She questioned how the voters of Kalkaji could trust him when his own party had lost confidence in his work.
Other BJP candidates include Dushyant Gautam in Karol Bagh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa in Rajouri Garden, Kailash Gehlot in Bijwasan, and Arvinder Singh Lovely in Gandhi Nagar. The Delhi assembly election will be a crucial battleground, as both major parties look to assert their dominance in the national capital.
