NEW DELHI: Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has described the party’s recent success in the Punjab by-elections as a “semi-final” leading up to the crucial Delhi Assembly polls. AAP clinched victory in three out of the four assembly constituencies that went to bypolls in Punjab, signaling its strong foothold in the state.
Kejriwal, a former Delhi Chief Minister, attributed the win to the party’s governance model and its commitment to improving citizens’ lives. “The people of Punjab have chosen AAP for the second time, reflecting the trust they have in the party’s vision and initiatives,” he stated.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann added symbolic insight, equating AAP’s victory with its election symbol, the broom. He remarked that AAP, which started by “cleaning homes and shops with a broom,” is now “cleaning all of India” under Kejriwal’s leadership.
The Congress secured just one seat, while the BJP failed to win any in these bypolls. This victory comes after AAP’s lukewarm performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where it secured just three of the thirteen parliamentary seats in Punjab.
AAP’s recent success underscores its growing influence in Punjab and its strategic move ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.
