NEW DELHI: In a surprising development ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Timarpur MLA Dilip Pandey announced his decision to withdraw from electoral politics. Sharing his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), Pandey expressed gratitude for his political journey and reaffirmed his unwavering support for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Pandey remarked, “Having fulfilled my responsibilities in building the party and contesting elections, I now wish to contribute in other capacities within AAP. Whoever contests from Timarpur, the people will ensure Arvind Kejriwal remains Delhi’s Chief Minister.”
A prominent Purvanchali leader, Pandey joined AAP after leaving a lucrative IT career. His efforts were instrumental in the party’s historic 2015 Delhi Assembly victory. While he faced setbacks in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections against BJP’s Manoj Tiwari, Pandey solidified his reputation as a committed public servant.
Pandey’s announcement follows that of outgoing Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, who cited age-related reasons for retiring. The electoral landscape is heating up, with BJP reportedly considering fielding Parvesh Verma against Kejriwal. Congress, despite its absence in the current Assembly, is strengthening its campaign with strategic appointments.
The upcoming elections promise a fierce battle as AAP seeks to retain its governance record, BJP eyes a breakthrough, and Congress pushes for a comeback.
