Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Jain has filed a defamation lawsuit against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Bansuri Swaraj, accusing her of making defamatory statements that harmed his reputation during a televised interview on October 5, 2023.
The case will be heard on Tuesday, December 10, at the Rouse Avenue Court. Jain claims that Swaraj’s allegations were false and politically motivated, aiming to tarnish his image for political gain.
Swaraj allegedly claimed that ₹3 crores, 1.8 kilograms of gold, and 133 gold coins were found at Jain’s residence, which Jain vehemently denies. He argues that these accusations were baseless and part of a smear campaign. Additionally, he accuses Swaraj of branding him as “corrupt” and “fraud,” further defaming him with malicious remarks.
Jain asserts that these false statements have caused significant harm to both his personal and professional life, negatively affecting his reputation as a public representative and his standing in his family and community. He emphasizes that the damage to his character is immeasurable, as it has scarred his political career and personal life, particularly in his roles as a husband, father, brother, and friend.
The defamation suit follows earlier challenges, including one filed by AAP leader Somnath Bharti, who contested Swaraj’s victory in the New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, alleging her success was due to “corrupt practices.” Despite the allegations, the BJP secured all seven Delhi seats in the most recent elections, continuing its dominance in the region.
