NEW DELHI: AAP MLAs, led by Leader of Opposition (LoP) Atishi, staged a protest outside Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s office on Monday, demanding the fulfillment of the BJP’s pre-election promise to provide Rs 2,500 to women in the city. The protest comes after the BJP failed to deliver on its commitment following the first Cabinet meeting.
Atishi, addressing the media, stated, “We requested a meeting with the Delhi CM two days ago but were denied. We are here to remind her of PM Modi’s guarantee to provide Rs 2,500 to women. Unfortunately, this promise remains unfulfilled.” She further emphasized that the Chief Minister had not provided any concrete assurance but mentioned efforts to implement the scheme by March 8.
The AAP has criticized the BJP for making hollow promises during the election campaign, accusing them of misleading women voters. The protest highlights growing tensions between the two parties, with AAP demanding transparency and accountability in governance.
The BJP, however, has defended its position, stating that the implementation of the scheme is under review and will be rolled out soon. Meanwhile, women in Delhi continue to await the promised financial aid, which was a key factor in the BJP’s election campaign.
As the political tussle intensifies, the AAP has vowed to keep the pressure on the BJP-led government until the promise is fulfilled. The protest underscores the importance of delivering on electoral commitments to maintain public trust.
