New Delhi, July 25, 2025 — In a major stride towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) today inked a ₹2,000 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the procurement of Air Defence Fire Control Radars (ADFCRs) for the Indian Army. The agreement, signed under the Buy (Indian – Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured) category, was formalised in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi.
Indigenous Firepower: Over 70% Local Content to Bolster Operational Readiness
The cutting-edge radars will feature minimum 70% indigenous content, symbolising the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India). Designed to detect and track multiple aerial threats—including fighter jets, attack helicopters, and hostile drones—these ADFCRs will significantly boost the Indian Army’s air defence network and tactical preparedness.
A Leap in Defence Modernisation and Industrial Empowerment
This landmark procurement marks a key milestone in the modernisation of Air Defence Regiments and reinforces India’s strategic autonomy. It also highlights the crucial role of domestic industries and MSMEs in bolstering national security. BEL will collaborate with a wide network of Indian Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises to source key components and raw materials, creating a ripple effect of employment and economic development.
Conclusion: A Strategic Move Towards AATMANIRBHAR BHARAT
The MoD-BEL partnership not only fortifies India’s defence infrastructure but also advances the broader vision of a resilient and technologically empowered military-industrial complex. With enhanced detection capabilities and indigenous innovation at the core, India continues its determined march towards defence self-sufficiency and national security excellence.
