Beyond cinema, Rajesh was actively involved in the Nadigar Sangam executive committee and also dabbled in business. However, life behind the screen wasn’t always kind. In a heartfelt interview that went viral on social media, Rajesh opened up about a deeply personal experience—his dream home. After moving to Chennai in 1968 with just Rs 15 in hand, Rajesh worked hard and built a beautiful bungalow in 1985 with the help of bank loans and borrowed money. The house was a symbol of his success, and it was inaugurated by none other than the then Chief Minister MG Ramachandran (MGR).

But destiny had other plans. Despite fulfilling his dream of building a home, Rajesh lived in it for just one day. As he explained in the interview, “I built the house in 1985 by taking a bank loan and borrowing money from people. But my film chances were declining and I had no steady income. I left the house after a day to attend a film shoot and never got to return.”

Ironically, the very house he built with passion became a popular film shooting location for many top stars of the time. Films were shot there nearly 20 days a month, with legendary actors like Sivaji Ganesan, Rajinikanth, Rishi Kapoor, and Amjad Khan frequenting the place. The house saw fame even as its owner faced mounting debts. Eventually, Rajesh was forced to sell the property in 1991. The proceeds from the sale helped him repay his bank and personal loans. By 1992, he was finally debt-free, but the emotional loss remained with him.
