Air India, under the Tata Group’s leadership since January 2022, is making strides in expanding its global coverage. CEO Campbell Wilson has announced the airline’s ambitious plans, including fleet upgrades, network expansion, and service quality enhancements as part of its ongoing five-year transformation strategy.
In 2023, Air India placed a historic order for 470 aircraft and has recently added 100 more to its pipeline. The airline now operates a fleet of over 300 planes, covering 100+ destinations worldwide. To support its international ambitions, Air India plans to launch flights to Manila, Jakarta, Dallas, and Los Angeles by 2025.
A $400 million fleet refurbishment project is also underway, focusing on upgrading interiors for 67 legacy aircraft, including single-aisle and widebody planes. The revamped fleet is expected to be operational by mid-2025, offering passengers a modernized flying experience.
The airline has also merged operations with Vistara and streamlined its low-cost carriers, Air India Express and AIX Connect. This consolidation strengthens its position in both premium and budget travel markets.
With these strategic initiatives, Air India is poised to redefine its presence in global aviation, promising enhanced connectivity and superior services.
