The upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections have set the stage for a heated contest in the Sewri constituency, where Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Ajay Choudhari aims for a third consecutive term. Facing him is Bala Nandgaonkar of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), known for his stronghold in the area until his 2014 defeat.
Choudhari, who has focused on redevelopment of dilapidated buildings, housing policies, and women’s empowerment, is counting on his strong track record and the Marathi voter base. Under his leadership, redevelopment policies for over 380 cessed buildings in Sewri were initiated, addressing a critical local issue. He has also championed women’s self-employment and youth education initiatives.
Nandgaonkar, aiming for a political comeback, is campaigning on completing unfinished projects, including the restoration of Sewri Fort and environmental efforts. A former state minister, he holds a reputation for connecting with diverse communities.
Nana Ambole, an independent candidate reportedly backed by BJP supporters, complicates the election further. Political analysts predict a close fight, with each candidate emphasizing long-term development and grassroots work.
Political leaders will soon officially announce the final candidates, intensifying anticipation for one of Mumbai’s most eagerly awaited electoral battles.
