Hyderabad: Renowned Tollywood actor Allu Arjun appeared before the Hyderabad police today for questioning regarding the tragic incident at Sandhya Theatre earlier this month. The stampede, which occurred during the premiere of his film Pushpa 2: The Rule, resulted in the death of a woman and critical injuries to her young son.
The incident took place on December 4, 2024, at Sandhya Theatre in RTC X Roads, Hyderabad, when an overwhelming crowd gathered for the special screening of Pushpa 2. The unexpected surge led to a stampede, causing the unfortunate fatality and injuries. In response, the Hyderabad City Police filed cases against Allu Arjun, the film’s unit, his security team, and the theatre’s management under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Summoned to the Chikkadpally police station, Arjun arrived at 11 am for the interrogation. Authorities focused on understanding the planning and security measures implemented during the event. Key questions revolved around whether the actor was informed about the potential risks associated with the large gathering and if adequate precautions were taken to manage the crowd.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy addressed the state assembly, attributing responsibility to Arjun. He stated that the police had denied permission for any event at the theatre, implying negligence on the part of the actor and his team.
Adding to the controversy, recent CCTV footage from the theatre has surfaced, reportedly contradicting Arjun’s earlier statements about the incident. This development has intensified scrutiny over the actor’s role and the event’s organization.
As the investigation continues, the film industry and fans await further details. The incident has sparked a broader discussion on the necessity of stringent safety protocols during high-profile events to prevent such tragedies in the future.
