Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the Sabar Dairy Plant in Rohtak, Haryana, marking a significant milestone in the cooperative dairy sector’s growth and farmer welfare. Attended by Haryana Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini and other dignitaries, the event reinforced India’s drive for self-reliance and rural prosperity under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
A Symbol of Dairy Sector Growth and Farmer Welfare
Shri Amit Shah hailed the establishment of Sabar Dairy, the country’s largest plant dedicated to the production of curd, milk, buttermilk, yogurt, and sweets, constructed at a cost of ₹350 crore. The plant produces 150 metric tons of curd, 10 metric tons of yogurt, 3 lakh liters of buttermilk, and 10,000 kilograms of sweets daily, serving the Haryana and Delhi-NCR regions. Shah emphasized the plant’s role as a symbol of prosperity for milk-producing farmers, expected to benefit lakhs of farmers across multiple states.
Cooperative Movement and Policy Progress
Shri Shah applauded Prime Minister Modi’s efforts in revitalizing the cooperative movement by establishing a dedicated Ministry of Cooperation and charting a visionary path to ensure cooperative societies reach every panchayat in the country by 2029. The dairy sector has witnessed remarkable growth—70% in the last 11 years—making it the fastest-growing dairy sector globally. Over 8 crore farmers across India are now connected with the sector, underlining its transformation and economic significance.
Technological Advancements and Future Initiatives
Acknowledging Gujarat’s implementation of modern breeding technologies such as embryo transfer and sex-determination, Shri Shah emphasized their extension to Haryana’s livestock sector. He also highlighted successful experiments on biogas and encouraged the promotion of beekeeping and organic farming, underscoring the interlinked growth of agriculture, allied sectors, and dairy.
National Dairy Sector Milestones
India’s milk production increased from 146 million tons to 239 million tons from 2014-15 to date, with indigenous cow milk output rising significantly. Haryana consistently ranks among the top states for per capita milk availability, now at 1,105 grams per day. The government’s ambitious targets include increasing milk processing capacity from 66 million liters to 100 million liters per day by 2028-29, directly benefiting farmers and women engaged in milk production.
Empowering Rural Economy and Sustainable Growth
Shri Shah emphasized the launch of three national cooperative societies focusing on animal feed production, manure management, and sustainable circular economy initiatives. The government’s flagship programs like the National Gokul Mission, National Artificial Insemination Program, and Animal Disease Control Program are steering India toward self-reliance in dairy production and infrastructure development.
Conclusion: Sabar Dairy Plant
The inauguration of the Sabar Dairy Plant exemplifies India’s commitment to farmer welfare, rural upliftment, and cooperative empowerment. Through vision-driven policies and technological interventions, India is accelerating toward dairy sector self-reliance, rural prosperity, and global leadership in milk production.
