A 21-year-old stalker in Andhra Pradesh’s Nandyal district tragically burnt a 17-year-old girl alive on Monday morning for rejecting his advances. The horrific incident occurred in Nandikotkur town, where neighbors and the victim’s family apprehended the accused as he tried to flee the scene.
Harassment Escalates to Tragedy
The Class 12 student, who had recently moved to her grandmother’s house in Byreddy Nagar Colony to escape the stalker, faced repeated harassment despite her attempts to distance herself. The accused, a resident of Kalugotla village, allegedly professed his love, which she firmly rejected. Her family had also advised her to avoid any interaction with him.
Around 1 a.m. on Monday, the accused knocked on her door and forcibly entered her room. He poured petrol on her and set her ablaze, despite her grandmother’s desperate attempts to intervene.
Accused Faces Murder Charges
Neighbors detained the accused, who sustained burn injuries during the act, and handed him over to the police. The police have charged him with murder, and he will face trial.
Authorities Respond
State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha expressed her deep distress over the incident and directed the Nandyal district police to expedite the investigation. She assured in a public statement that authorities will take stringent action against the accused.
