South Africa has announced their 15-man squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy in Pakistan, set to take place in February 2025. The squad is led by captain Temba Bavuma and features a blend of experienced players and fresh talent. Notably, Anrich Nortje makes his return to the team after missing out on the World Cup due to a left toe injury, having now fully recovered. Additionally, Lungi Ngidi has been named in the squad despite missing the recent home series against Pakistan due to a groin issue.
The experienced squad includes 10 players who featured in the 2023 World Cup, reinforcing the team’s depth and strength. The South African team will play their group matches against Afghanistan on February 21 in Karachi, Australia on February 25 in Rawalpindi, and England on March 1, also in Karachi.
Coach Rob Walter expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to perform under pressure, citing the team’s previous strong showings in global tournaments. He emphasized the importance of both experience and the addition of fresh talent, with the goal of progressing to the later stages of the tournament and aiming for victory.
