Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal will be allotted a government Type VII bungalow as soon as one becomes available. Kejriwal, as the leader of a recognized national party, is entitled to such an accommodation.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Khattar clarified that currently, all Type VII bungalows are occupied. “We only have Type V and VI bungalows available at the moment. Kejriwal will be allotted a Type VII bungalow as soon as it is free,” he said.
The AAP has consistently emphasized Kejriwal’s entitlement to central government accommodation and recently reiterated its demand in a letter to the Union Housing Ministry.
Following his resignation as Delhi Chief Minister in September, Kejriwal temporarily moved to the official residence of AAP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal at 5 Ferozeshah Road in October.
The announcement reflects the government’s acknowledgment of Kejriwal’s entitlement as per protocol, while the delay highlights the unavailability of suitable housing in the designated category.
