In a series of coordinated operations over the past 72 hours, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Manipur Police, have intensified efforts to curb insurgent activities across the state. These operations have resulted in the apprehension of suspected insurgent cadres, dismantling of underground bunkers, and significant seizures of arms, ammunition, and explosives in various districts, including those along the Indo-Myanmar border.
Arrest of Suspected Insurgent and Seizure of Arms
On February 18 and 19, acting on precise intelligence inputs, joint teams established mobile vehicle checkpoints at strategic locations. In one notable operation at the tri-junction of Maojang Village in Tengnoupal district, security forces observed a motorcyclist attempting to evade the checkpoint. The individual abandoned the motorcycle and fled the scene. Upon thorough inspection of the vehicle, the following items were recovered:
- One AK-56 rifle
- One 9mm pistol
- One 40mm Lathode gun
- Grenades
- Various ammunition and war-like stores
Tengnoupal district, bordering Myanmar, has been a known hotspot for insurgent activities, making this seizure particularly significant.
Dismantling of Underground Bunkers
In a separate operation on February 18, joint forces conducted a meticulous search in the dense forested areas of SL Zougam and Point 1683, located within the jurisdiction of Machi police station in Tengnoupal district. This operation led to the discovery and subsequent destruction of three underground bunkers utilized by insurgent groups. The dismantling of these bunkers is a strategic blow to the operational capabilities of these groups in the region.
Apprehension of Insurgent Cadre
Furthering their crackdown on insurgent elements, security forces apprehended an individual in Khabeisoi Maning Leikai, Imphal East district, on February 18. During initial interrogation, the suspect admitted affiliation with the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) People’s War Group (PWG), a proscribed valley-based insurgent organization. The arrest of this cadre is expected to provide valuable intelligence on the group’s operations and networks.
Ongoing Efforts and Commitment to Peace
The apprehended individuals and confiscated materials have been handed over to local police authorities for comprehensive investigation and legal proceedings. These operations underscore the unwavering commitment of the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police to restore peace and stability in the region. By targeting the infrastructure and personnel of insurgent groups, security forces aim to dismantle the operational capabilities of these organizations and prevent future threats to civilian safety.
The collaborative efforts between the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police highlight the importance of intelligence-sharing and coordinated action in counter-insurgency operations. As these operations continue, the security forces remain vigilant and prepared to address any emerging threats, ensuring the safety and security of the residents of Manipur.
