New Delhi, July 7, 2025 – Residents of Delhi-NCR woke up to torrential rains and thunderstorms on Monday morning, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for the region. After weeks of scattered showers and a prolonged dry spell, the monsoon made a vigorous return, drenching the capital and surrounding cities.

🌧️ Monsoon Roars Back After Dry Spell

The downpour, which began early morning, affected major areas including Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad, offering significant relief from the unrelenting heatwave that had gripped the region in recent days. Commuters navigated waterlogged roads and low visibility due to heavy cloud cover and intermittent lightning.

New Delhi: In a landmark initiative to strengthen the healthcare workforce and expand the reach of public health services, Union Health Minister Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda distributed appointment letters to newly recruited nursing officers and allied healthcare professionals at a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The event, graced by several dignitaries including Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta and senior ministers, also saw the launch of 70 Ayushman Bharat Registration Vans aimed at accelerating healthcare inclusion in the national capital.

Historic Appointments After 15 Years

For the first time in 15 years, appointment letters were formally distributed to Delhi-based nursing and allied healthcare professionals. A total of 1,388 nursing officers and 41 paramedical professionals were offered positions through the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB). Of these, 570 nursing officers and 20 refractionists have already received their letters, with ongoing document verification covering over 1,270 candidates.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Nadda called this a “momentous occasion”, acknowledging the years of neglect that Delhi’s healthcare system had faced. He noted that this recruitment drive is a critical step toward resolving workforce shortages in hospitals and ensuring better healthcare delivery.



Revolution in Primary Healthcare: 1,100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs Coming to Delhi

Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta announced an ambitious plan to establish 1,100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) across Delhi by March 31, 2026. Backed by ₹1,700 crore under the PM-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), this initiative aims to democratize healthcare by making primary, preventive, and promotive services accessible to every citizen.

Of the target, 100 AAMs have already been built, with 34 inaugurated. The Delhi Government plans to launch 100 AAMs monthly, with an equitable distribution of 15 in each Assembly Constituency and 150 per Parliamentary Constituency.

Mobile Healthcare on Wheels: Ayushman Bharat Registration Vans Flagged Off

A key highlight of the event was the flagging off of 70 specially designed Information, Education & Communication (IEC) vans. These mobile units are equipped with real-time registration facilities for Ayushman Cards and will travel across all Assembly Constituencies of Delhi for a 30-day outreach program. This initiative ensures doorstep enrollment for low-income families and senior citizens, particularly under the Ayushman Vay Vandana scheme.

Out of the 4 lakh Ayushman cards issued in Delhi so far, 2 lakh have benefited senior citizens, ensuring healthcare access with dignity.

Remarkable Progress in Healthcare Outcomes

Shri Nadda shared several compelling statistics that reflect India’s progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi:

  • Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR): Reduced from 130 to 88 per lakh live births.

  • Infant Mortality Rate (IMR): Declined from 39 to 26 per 1,000 live births.

  • Under-Five Mortality Rate (U5MR): Dropped by 42% compared to the global decline of 14%.

  • Neonatal Mortality Rate: Improved by 40% against a global average decline of 11%.

  • Tuberculosis Incidence: Reduced by 17.7%, more than double the global average decline.

These statistics underscore the success of programs like Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, which ensure a continuum of care from conception to early childhood, including immunization and maternal support.

The minister also highlighted a massive expansion in medical education:

  • AIIMS institutions: Increased from 7 to 20 since 2014.

In a landmark move, Shri Shah virtually launched two major Amul projects:

  • Amul Chocolate Plant (Mogar): ₹105 crore investment; capacity doubled from 30 to 60 tonnes/day.

  • Dr. Verghese Kurien Cheese Plant (Khatraj): ₹260 crore investment for UHT milk, whey drinks, mozzarella, processed cheese, and smart warehousing.

He also inaugurated:

  • Ready-to-Use Culture (RUC) Plant by NDDB (₹45 crore).

  • NCDFI Headquarters – Maniben Patel Bhawan (₹32 crore).

  • Laid foundation for new NDDB HQ building, Anand.

“These steps make India more self-sufficient in high-quality dairy products and boost rural entrepreneurship,” said Shah.

Sardar Patel Cooperative Dairy Federation: A New Model for Inclusive Growth

Shri Shah unveiled the Sardar Patel Cooperative Dairy Federation Limited, aimed at creating a circular economy in dairy—covering fair procurement, input services, and price stabilization.

He also announced the launch of Kutch District Salt Cooperative Society, calling it the Amul of salt producers, uplifting thousands of laborers in the salt belt through cooperative ownership and profit-sharing.

Technology, Transparency, and Member-Centric Governance

Marking the International Year of Cooperatives, Shri Shah urged all cooperative leaders to adopt three pillars for success:

  1. Transparency in operations.

  2. Technology acceptance to survive competition.

  3. Member-centric policies, keeping cooperative beneficiaries at the core.

“Wherever technology or transparency lacked, cooperative institutions failed. It is time to make these values a working culture,” he asserted.

On the occasion, Shri Shah also paid homage to Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee on his birth anniversary, recalling his sacrifices for Kashmir and efforts that led to the integration of West Bengal. New Delhi: In a decisive move to enhance road safety and protect two-wheeler riders across the country, the Department of Consumer Affairs, in collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), has called on citizens to strictly use BIS-certified helmets. The initiative underscores the government’s resolve to eliminate substandard protective gear from the market and reduce fatalities caused by low-quality helmets.

Alarming Rise in Road Casualties Due to Substandard Helmets

India is home to over 21 crore two-wheelers, making helmets a critical component of everyday commuting. Although wearing a helmet is mandatory under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the quality of the helmet plays a pivotal role in saving lives during accidents. Inferior, non-certified helmets offer little to no protection, undermining the very purpose of safety regulations.

To address this concern, the government has implemented a Quality Control Order since 2021, mandating that all two-wheeler helmets sold in India must comply with BIS standards — specifically IS 4151:2015. Only ISI-marked helmets that are certified under this standard are legally permitted for sale and use.



Enforcement Measures and Crackdowns

The BIS has stepped up surveillance and enforcement. During the financial year 2024–25, the agency carried out over 30 search-and-seizure operations, testing more than 500 helmet samples. In a major crackdown in Delhi, over 2,500 non-compliant helmets were seized from nine manufacturers who were operating with expired or cancelled licenses.

Additionally, around 500 substandard helmets were confiscated from 17 retail and roadside vendors, where unbranded and unsafe helmets are often sold to unsuspecting consumers. Legal action has been initiated against violators to deter the spread of uncertified products.

Nationwide Campaigns and Local Administrative Involvement

The Department of Consumer Affairs has written to District Collectors (DCs) and District Magistrates (DMs) across India urging them to personally lead special campaigns to enforce the mandatory use and sale of BIS-certified helmets. These efforts are being integrated with existing road safety initiatives to maximise outreach and effectiveness.

Notably, BIS branch offices have been instructed to coordinate with local police departments and state administrations to support enforcement on the ground. Encouraging results have already been observed in the Delhi-NCR region, and the campaign is being expanded to other states.

Awareness Drives and Consumer Outreach

To increase public awareness, BIS has launched a variety of educational initiatives:

  • BIS Chennai conducted a roadshow earlier this year, distributing ISI-marked helmets in partnership with local traffic police, and educating the public about the risks of using non-compliant gear.

  • ‘Manak Mitra’ volunteers under the Quality Connect Campaign have been deployed to engage with communities and educate them about the importance of certified products.

  • Media outlets, social media, and civil society groups have been roped in to amplify the message of “Safety through Standards.”

BIS Care App – Empowering Consumers

As part of digital empowerment, the BIS Care App now allows users to:

  • Verify whether a helmet manufacturer holds a valid BIS license.

  • File complaints against sellers or manufacturers offering substandard products.

  • Track enforcement and compliance status of safety gear in the market.

This digital feature aims to increase transparency, enable accountability, and make it easier for consumers to make informed decisions.

The Department has reiterated that ensuring the quality of safety gear is central to the government’s road safety and consumer protection goals. By weeding out unsafe helmets and encouraging the adoption of BIS-certified products, the government aims to significantly reduce preventable road deaths and injuries.

New Delhi: In a decisive move to bolster air quality management ahead of the critical winter season, the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) conducted two intensive high-level review meetings on 3rd July 2025 with the State Governments of Haryana and Punjab in Chandigarh. Chaired by Shri Rajesh Verma, Chairperson, CAQM, and attended by senior members of the Commission along with Chief Secretaries and departmental heads from both states, the sessions were aimed at expediting the implementation of multi-sectoral pollution abatement strategies across the region.

Haryana Review: Action Plan Execution and Road Dust Mitigation in Focus

During the first review with the Government of Haryana, CAQM assessed the implementation status of the state’s approved action plan to eliminate stubble burning, with particular emphasis on 2025 paddy residue management preparedness.   • Liquidation of End-of-Life (EoL) vehicles

  • Installation of Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras under Direction No. 89

  • Accelerated adoption of clean mobility solutions by aggregators, delivery networks, and e-commerce platforms

  • Complete migration of buses entering Delhi to cleaner fuels, including All India Tourist Permit buses

  • Enforcement of restrictions on polluting commercial goods vehicles entering Delhi

  • Phasing out diesel-run auto-rickshaws and encouraging inter-city buses to shift to electric/CNG/hybrid models

 



Punjab Review: Total Stubble Burning Elimination and Vehicle Emission Control

The second meeting with the Government of Punjab was marked by a similar depth of analysis. The Commission reviewed the State’s comprehensive plan for complete elimination of paddy stubble burning in 2025, an annual challenge that significantly contributes to NCR’s winter smog. Officials presented progress on the mandatory use of biomass pellets in brick kilns, adherence to emission standards by thermal power plants, and action taken to meet biomass co-firing targets.

Additional discussions included:

  • Status of clean fuel migration for inter-city transport

  • Enforcement measures to limit entry of polluting vehicles into Delhi

  • Directional compliance with regards to vehicular emissions and transition to electric/public transport options

The Commission emphasised proactive implementation of all Statutory Directions and insisted on real-time inter-departmental coordination to mitigate risks ahead of the winter season, when air pollution levels typically spike across North India.

Field Visits and Ground-Level Assessments

To support the review meetings with empirical insights, CAQM officials conducted field visits on 4th July to various ex-situ paddy stubble management installations in Punjab and Haryana. These included:

  • Pelletisation Plants

  • Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) Plants

  • Biomass Power Generation Units

  • 2G Ethanol Plants

  • Industrial Boilers using agricultural residue

These inspections helped evaluate the technological viability, capacity, and scalability of infrastructure in place, and identify bottlenecks or areas for policy and operational enhancement.

Reaffirming Commitment and Actionable Roadmap

The Commission reiterated that the successful execution of its directives hinges on the sustained commitment and coordination between the Centre, States, and local stakeholders. While acknowledging the efforts made by both Punjab and Haryana thus far, CAQM stressed that the next few months are critical for the region’s air quality trajectory.

In particular, the Chairperson urged for:

  • Immediate operationalisation of infrastructure for paddy straw disposal

  • Faster transition to clean transportation, especially for vehicles entering Delhi

  • Stringent on-ground enforcement of restrictions and emission norms

  • Institutional coordination and data-backed accountability to ensure transparency

The meetings concluded with a collective pledge to transform planning into measurable impact, reflecting an integrated vision for cleaner air and healthier living conditions in one of India’s most pollution-prone regions.

Jalgaon, Maharashtra | July 5, 2025 — In a powerful display of environmental commitment and community unity, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0”, the second phase of the nationwide afforestation campaign, was successfully carried out in Bhusawal, Jalgaon district. The initiative was spearheaded by Smt. Raksha Nikhil Khadse, Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and saw the participation of numerous public figures, enthusiastic students, and eco-conscious volunteers.

This phase of the campaign is a heartfelt tribute to mothers and Mother Earth, symbolizing love, gratitude, and environmental responsibility through the simple yet impactful act of planting trees.

A Collaborative Green Mission

Organised collaboratively by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, My Bharat Jalgaon, and the District Administration of Jalgaon, the initiative witnessed the plantation of over 2,000 saplings across the region. Native species including Kadu Badam, Tamarind, Neem, Amla, and Shisham were chosen for their resilience and ecological value, helping to boost local biodiversity, enhance green cover, and combat environmental degradation.

Participants came together in a solemn yet celebratory moment, where voices echoed with promises to water the trees regularly, protect them from damage, and ensure their survival through seasonal cycles. For many, this was not just a civic duty, but a personal mission — a way to give back to their mothers and to Mother Nature in the most tangible way possible.

Educational institutions pledged to involve students in regular tree care as part of their community outreach. Gram panchayat members and village officials announced plans to integrate sapling maintenance into their local development schemes. My Bharat and NSS volunteers committed to conducting monthly monitoring visits, ensuring that each planted tree is accounted for and thrives as a green guardian of its surroundings.

Smt. Raksha Nikhil Khadse, while concluding the campaign, emphasized that true sustainability lies in consistent action, not just symbolic gestures. New Delhi, July 4, 2025 — The National Conference on Responsible Business Conduct (NCRBC) 2025, hosted by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, successfully concluded its second day at the Taj Palace, New Delhi, with an urgent call to move from awareness to the institutionalisation of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles in Indian business practices.

In a resounding Valedictory Address, Shri Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, Director General & CEO of IICA, stressed that ESG must become the moral and operational nucleus of every business, rather than remain an optional corporate add-on. He invited all stakeholders to unite in building a responsible business ecosystem aligned with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

Day Two Highlights: Dialogues on Climate, Supply Chains, Equity, and Reporting Standards

The second day of NCRBC 2025 was marked by insightful panel discussions, showcasing India’s regulatory foresight, industry readiness, and global alignment with ESG goals.
