New Delhi: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, inaugurated the Departmental Summit on ‘National Ayush Mission and Capacity Building in States’ at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, on 3 September 2025. The two-day summit was held in the esteemed presence of Dr. V.K. Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog, and Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush.

Government’s Commitment to State-Specific Frameworks and SOPs

Addressing the summit, Shri Jadhav underscored the government’s dedication to creating resilient and inclusive healthcare systems tailored specifically to the unique needs of each state. He emphasized the development of comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as essential tools for streamlining quality healthcare delivery. “Our goal is to establish state-specific frameworks to enhance infrastructure, deliver superior services, and integrate Ayush systems with modern healthcare,” said the Minister.

Progress and Milestones of the National Ayush Mission

Since its launch in 2014 under the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the National Ayush Mission (NAM) has been transformative in expanding affordable and accessible Ayush healthcare across India. Shri Jadhav highlighted the establishment of 12,500 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, shifting focus from outpatient services to holistic, preventive, and promotive healthcare models. He also announced the launch of Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) for Ayush facilities in March 2024, ensuring uniform quality and capacity across infrastructure, human resources, medicines, clinical trials, and more.

Ayurveda Day to Be Celebrated Annually from 23 September

In a significant announcement, the Minister declared that Ayurveda Day would be celebrated every year on 23 September. This year marks the 10th anniversary, themed “Ayurveda for People and Planet,” underlining Ayurveda’s dual role in individual well-being and ecological sustainability. Shri Jadhav called on all states and union territories to actively participate and elevate the event into a globally recognized health initiative.

New Initiatives to Support Ayush Growth and Integration

The summit also saw the inauguration of the Project Management Unit (PMU) at AIIA, designed to assist stakeholders in navigating Ayush-related insurance schemes, thereby facilitating easier access to treatments. The ‘Ayurvidya Advanced Centre’ was launched as a pioneering digital platform aimed at democratizing Ayurveda education through expert-led courses, webinars, and interactive sessions—a critical step towards capacity building and professional development in the Ayush sector.

Expert Views on Ayush’s Role in National Health

Dr. V.K. Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog, highlighted Ayush as integral to building a “Swasth Bharat,” emphasizing the collaborative efforts of states and stakeholders to strengthen traditional health systems. He linked a healthy population with the realization of the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 and praised the government’s focused efforts in disease eradication and life expectancy enhancement. Dr. Paul called for mainstreaming Ayush through better mission implementation, enhanced medical education, wellness tourism, and private sector participation.

Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha stressed the importance of the ‘Har Ghar Ayuryog’ initiative—combining Ayush and Yoga—to foster nationwide behavioral change and improve health outcomes. The summit’s six sub-themes addressed these aspects to promote policy effectiveness throughout the country.

Participative Approach for Mission Enhancement

Diverse senior bureaucrats from states and union territories participated actively, presenting state-specific notes and grassroots feedback. This participatory model aims to strategically strengthen and expand the National Ayush Mission, which promotes a holistic healthcare approach integrating Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa, and Homeopathy.

Conclusion

The Departmental Summit marks a critical milestone in reinforcing India’s commitment to integrating Ayush with mainstream healthcare, fostering inclusive health for all citizens. With focused frameworks, new educational resources, and collaborative policy dialogues, the National Ayush Mission is poised to drive transformative changes in India’s healthcare landscape.
