Varun Dhawan’s latest film Baby John, which released on Christmas Day, has been struggling to perform well at the box office despite the extended holiday weekend. The film, a remake of the Tamil hit Theri, also stars Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi. Directed by Kalees, Baby John opened to mixed reviews and has failed to show significant growth over its first four days.
According to reports, the film earned Rs.3.99 crore on its fourth day, bringing its total collection to approximately Rs.23.6 crore. This is below expectations, especially considering the holiday season and the extended weekend. On its opening day, Baby John saw a decent Rs.11.25 crore, but the collections sharply dropped to Rs.4.75 crore on the second day, and then slightly recovered to Rs.3.65 crore on day three.
The lackluster performance has already led to several shows of Baby John being replaced by the Malayalam action film Marco, starring Unni Mukundan. According to Bollywood Hungama, the number of shows allotted to Baby John is expected to be reduced further in the coming days.
Critics have been mixed in their response to the film. A review from Hindustan Times noted that the film starts weakly, with no clear direction, and struggled to make an impact with its characters. Despite the star cast and the remake’s potential, Baby John appears to be struggling to connect with audiences.
