Security has been tightened at more than 100 temples, as large numbers of devotees are expected to visit religious places on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Police said crowd control arrangements have been made to ensure smooth movement and avoid stampede-like situations.

Popular public spots such as Marina Beach, Santhome, and Elliott’s Beach will see enhanced police presence. Patrolling will be carried out on foot, in vehicles, and on horseback. Police assistance booths will be set up at key locations to help the public, while drones will be used for aerial surveillance to monitor crowd movement and respond quickly to any disturbance.

Authorities have also placed restrictions on entry to establishments serving alcohol. Children will not be allowed inside such premises under any circumstances. Police said establishments violating the rule could face closure and cancellation of licences.

Officials stressed that these steps are preventive in nature and meant to ensure that celebrations remain safe and incident-free. Senior officers said coordination meetings were held with traffic police, local stations, and emergency services to ensure quick response in case of any emergency.
