Mumbai Police have arrested a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, for allegedly attacking Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence earlier this week. The arrest was made around 2 a.m. on Sunday from Thane.
Details of the Accused
The suspect, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, hails from Jhalakathi district in Bangladesh. Investigators revealed that he had been living in Mumbai illegally for six months, working for a housekeeping company.
“We have invoked sections of the Foreigners Act, 1946, and the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920, as the accused did not possess valid documents to stay in India,” said an officer from Bandra police station.

The accused allegedly entered Saif Ali Khan’s upscale residence in Bandra last week, where he is suspected of attempting theft. He attacked Saif Ali Khan when confronted, before fleeing the scene.
Police tracked him down to Thane after analyzing CCTV footage from the vicinity and tracing his movements. The arrest came after his contractor, who recognized him from television reports, informed local authorities.

Police have recovered several items linked to the crime, including the accused’s clothes, a Fastrack bag, and a pink gamcha (traditional scarf), which were visible in CCTV footage near the actor’s residence.
Although the suspect’s motive appears to be theft, investigators are probing further. “We are interrogating him to confirm why he entered the actor’s residence and whether there was any other intent,” a police officer said.
