NEW DELHI: The government of India (GOI) has invited bids to implement a barrier-free tolling system on the Dwarka Expressway, marking a major step toward modernizing India’s transport infrastructure. This expressway, spanning 28 kilometers, connects Dwarka in Delhi to Gurugram in Haryana. It is the first elevated, eight-lane access-controlled urban expressway in the country.
The tolling system will use advanced technologies like satellite-based GNSS electronic toll collection and overhead FASTag readers. These innovations aim to eliminate physical toll plazas, reducing traffic congestion and introducing distance-based toll charges. Drivers will only pay for the distance traveled, creating a seamless travel experience.
The expressway features cutting-edge infrastructure, including a single-pillar flyover, India’s longest urban road tunnel, and multi-level interchanges. With more than 2 lakh metric tons of steel and 20 lakh cubic meters of concrete used, this engineering marvel is also set to provide direct access to the upcoming India International Convention Centre.
Following successful implementation on the Dwarka Expressway, the system may be expanded nationwide, enhancing efficiency across India’s highways.
