Parbhani: A unified all-party march was held in Parbhani on Saturday, calling for swift action in the murder case of Beed sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh. The protest march, which began at Nutan College ground and ended at Shivaji Maharaj’s statue, aimed to press for the arrest of all those involved.
Deshmukh, sarpanch of Massajog village, was abducted, tortured, and murdered on December 9, 2024. Initial investigations suggest his death resulted from his efforts to prevent an extortion attempt on an energy firm operating a windmill project in the region. The accused allegedly demanded ₹2 crore from company officials, which Deshmukh strongly opposed.
Law enforcement agencies have made significant progress, with six suspects arrested so far. Two individuals, Sudarshan Ghule and Sudhir Sangle, were recently apprehended in Pune and are under investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). Authorities continue to search for the remaining suspect, Krishna Andhale.
The SIT, led by CID Deputy Inspector General Basavraj Teli, is delving deeper into the case, which has sparked outrage across the state. Political leaders and citizens alike are demanding stringent action against the perpetrators, ensuring justice for the victim and his family.
