A jeep driver in Bihar’s Bhojpur district displayed remarkable bravery after being shot in the stomach by armed assailants while ferrying passengers. Despite suffering severe pain from the gunshot wound, Santosh Singh drove several kilometers to ensure the safety of the 14-15 passengers onboard.
The incident took place on the night of Wednesday and Thursday when Singh was returning from a “Tilak” ceremony. As he was driving, two armed individuals on a motorcycle chased his vehicle and opened fire, striking him in the stomach. Despite the intense pain from the injury, Singh courageously continued driving, managing to reach a safer location.
Upon reaching a safe spot, passengers immediately contacted the police, who responded promptly. Singh was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors performed surgery to remove the bullet. Rajiv Chandra Singh, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Jagdishpur, confirmed that the driver was stable after surgery but would remain under observation for a few more days.
Medical reports revealed that the bullet had caused extensive damage to Singh’s intestine, but surgeons were able to repair the damage. Dr. Vikash Singh, who attended to Singh, noted that while his condition was stable, he would need to stay under medical care for at least a week.
The police have registered an FIR based on a complaint from Singh’s family, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the attackers. Initial investigations revealed that the assailants had targeted another vehicle earlier the same day. Authorities are working with local villagers to identify the perpetrators, and a forensic team has been engaged to assist in the investigation. The police are continuing their efforts to bring the assailants to justice.
