Nitish Kumar Inaugurates Rajgir International Cricket Stadium Pavilion in Bihar
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday inaugurated the pavilion and cricket ground of the newly developed Rajgir International Cricket Stadium in Nalanda district, marking a landmark moment for the state’s sporting future. The stadium, which forms the centerpiece of a massive sports complex, is being hailed as a transformative project aimed at bringing Bihar onto the global cricketing map.
A Landmark in Bihar’s Sporting Journey
The Rajgir International Cricket Stadium has been built at a cost of ₹633 crore, a figure that reflects both ambition and commitment to nurturing sports in the region. Spread across an expansive area, the facility boasts a seating capacity of 40,000 spectators, making it one of the largest stadiums in eastern India. Officials said the sheer scale of the infrastructure signals Bihar’s intent to host major national and international sporting events in the years ahead.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, speaking at the inauguration ceremony, expressed pride in the project’s completion and emphasized its significance for the youth of Bihar. “This is not just a stadium, it is a symbol of aspiration. It will inspire our youngsters to dream bigger and work harder,” he said, urging budding cricketers from across the state to utilize the world-class facilities.
World-Class Infrastructure
The stadium is equipped with 13 advanced pitches modeled after international standards, allowing players to train under conditions similar to those found in the top cricketing nations. Alongside the pitches, the pavilion features modern dressing rooms, VIP lounges, media boxes, and hospitality areas, ensuring a complete professional experience for players and audiences alike.
Designed with a futuristic vision, the stadium incorporates eco-friendly features and has dedicated areas for practice sessions, ensuring that both professional teams and grassroots players can benefit. Its location in Nalanda, already known globally for its historical and cultural significance, adds another dimension to the facility, blending tradition with modernity.
Managed by Bihar Cricket Association
The management of the stadium has been entrusted to the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA). Officials from the association noted that the facility strengthens Bihar’s case for deeper engagement with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and could pave the way for hosting Ranji Trophy matches, IPL games, and even international fixtures.

For decades, Bihar has struggled to establish itself firmly in the national cricketing circuit. With the launch of this state-of-the-art venue, that narrative could change. “This stadium is a game-changer for Bihar cricket. We now have a facility that matches international standards,” said a BCA representative.
A Boost for Local Talent
Beyond professional matches, the stadium is expected to play a pivotal role in nurturing grassroots talent. Scholarships, training programs, and coaching camps will be organized regularly, giving young cricketers from smaller towns and villages access to resources that were previously beyond reach.
Sports analysts believe that such exposure could lead to a new wave of players from Bihar breaking into national and international squads. “Infrastructure is the foundation for success. This initiative ensures that the next generation of Bihar’s cricketers won’t face the same struggles as their predecessors,” said a senior coach attending the event.
Symbol of Growth and Aspiration
The inauguration of the Rajgir International Cricket Stadium comes at a time when Bihar has been actively investing in its infrastructure and development projects. For residents, the stadium is more than just a sports venue — it is a symbol of progress, pride, and opportunity.
As the sun set on Sunday, the stadium’s lights illuminated the newly inaugurated pavilion, drawing applause from the gathered crowd. For many, it was a moment of hope and excitement — a sign that Bihar’s long-standing dream of becoming a cricketing hub is now closer to reality.
With the Rajgir International Cricket Stadium finally open, Bihar has taken a confident stride toward the future of sports, sending a message that its aspirations are as vast as the arena itself.
