BJP Accused of Fostering Parallel Leadership in Shiv Sena Amid Growing Internal Rift

Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders allege BJP is encouraging industries minister Uday Samant to form a parallel leadership within Shiv Sena. Samant denies claims as rift rumors grow.

Breaking News

Mumbai: Allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of fostering a parallel leadership within Shiv Sena have intensified. Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar claimed that the BJP is encouraging industries minister Uday Samant to challenge the leadership of deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde. This claim was backed by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, who alleged that Samant has the support of 20 Shiv Sena MLAs.

Rising Discontent Within Shiv Sena

The controversy follows the Maharashtra government’s announcement of district guardian ministers, which excluded senior Shiv Sena leaders Dada Bhuse and Bharat Gogawale. The exclusion reportedly caused resentment, with Gogawale openly expressing dissatisfaction.

Deputy Chief Minister Shinde’s visit to his native village in Satara soon after the announcement added to the speculation of discontent. Shinde has previously expressed frustration over cabinet decisions, notably during discussions on the home portfolio in December, which he eventually secured after negotiations with the BJP.

Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) Criticisms

Congress leader Wadettiwar accused the BJP of sidelining Shinde, stating, “They removed Uddhavji to bring Shinde to the forefront, and now they’re doing the same to him. Efforts are underway to usher in a new ‘Uday.’”

Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Sanjay Raut echoed these sentiments, alleging that the BJP is frustrated with Shinde’s “tantrums” and intends to elevate Samant. Raut claimed the BJP had previously planned to replace Shinde with Samant during the deputy chief minister controversy.

Samant’s Rebuttal

Currently attending the World Economic Forum in Davos with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Samant dismissed the allegations in a video statement. He described the claims as baseless and politically motivated, stating, “Eknath Shinde saheb’s rebellion earned me the industries minister portfolio twice. Our bond is beyond politics, and no conspiracy can break it.”

Samant also accused Wadettiwar of attempting to sow discord, alleging that Wadettiwar himself had sought to join the BJP and met with Fadnavis.

Samant’s Political Journey

Over two decades, Samant has transitioned from an NCP MLA to a prominent Shiv Sena leader. Initially serving under Sharad Pawar, he switched to Shiv Sena in 2014 and quickly climbed the ranks. He sided with Shinde during the 2022 rebellion, securing his place in the Mahayuti government. His influence in Konkan politics has grown, with his brother, Kiran Samant, also achieving electoral success in Rajapur.

The Larger Picture

The allegations highlight ongoing tensions within the Shiv Sena and its alliance with the BJP. As accusations and denials continue, the political landscape in Maharashtra remains volatile, with speculation over the BJP’s strategy to consolidate power within the alliance.
