BJP Accuses Telangana Government of Targeting Tollywood Amid Allu Arjun Controversy

Malviya also highlighted other instances, including the demolition of superstar Nagarjuna's convention center and personal attacks on actress Samantha Prabhu

TELANGANA: BJP leader Amit Malviya has accused Telangana’s Congress-led government, under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, of targeting the Telugu film industry, Tollywood. Malviya alleges that the administration is pressuring film stars and producers who resist the Chief Minister’s attempts to exert control and extract money.

The controversy intensified following the arrest of actor Allu Arjun. He was detained after a tragic incident during the premiere of his film “Pushpa 2: The Rule” at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre on December 4, where a stampede resulted in the death of a woman named Revathi and injuries to her child. Arjun was later released on bail after furnishing a ₹50,000 bond.

Malviya also highlighted other instances, including the demolition of superstar Nagarjuna’s convention center and personal attacks on actress Samantha Prabhu, suggesting a broader pattern of harassment against Tollywood figures.

The BJP contends that these actions reflect a pattern of extortion and coercion by the current government, undermining free speech and expression in its pursuit of power and wealth.
