Mumbai: The political focus in Maharashtra remains on the formation of the next government following the Mahayuti alliance’s significant victory in the assembly elections. While Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde is a contender to retain the Chief Minister’s position, BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis is emerging as the frontrunner. The decision now hinges on consultations with BJP’s central leadership in Delhi, where key discussions are underway.
The delay in announcing the Chief Minister stems from Shiv Sena’s demand for Shinde’s continuation as CM, creating a stalemate within the alliance. BJP leader Rahul Narvekar highlighted the need for swift action, emphasizing that the new government must be formed promptly as the assembly’s term has concluded. “The parliamentary board and leaders of the three parties will soon finalize the CM,” Narvekar stated.
Shinde, expressing gratitude for public support, urged his followers not to gather at his residence, stating, “I deeply appreciate your love but request no gatherings in my support”. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena members have held prayers across Thane, advocating for Shinde’s reappointment.
Senior BJP leader Fadnavis met with Amit Shah and J.P. Nadda in Delhi to finalize the power-sharing structure. Reports indicate BJP could claim the Chief Minister’s position alongside key ministries, with Shinde likely to retain a pivotal role.
Opposition Congress leader Nana Patole raised concerns about election discrepancies, suggesting inconsistencies in results. Rahul Narvekar emphasized swift government formation, while the Mahayuti alliance’s victory highlights power struggles and cabinet negotiations.
