The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to hold a key legislative party meeting on Monday, February 17, 2025, to select the new Chief Minister of Delhi. The meeting will be held at 3 PM at the Delhi BJP office, where all 48 newly elected BJP MLAs will gather to choose their leader. The selected individual will be sworn in as Delhi’s next Chief Minister, marking the end of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) decade-long rule in the national capital.

In the recent Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP secured a clear victory, winning 48 out of 70 seats. The AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, was ousted from power after winning just 22 seats. Despite its strong presence in Delhi over the past 10 years, the AAP faced a significant defeat, with several of its senior leaders losing their constituencies, including Kejriwal, who was beaten by BJP’s Parvesh Verma in the New Delhi constituency.

The BJP’s win comes as a blow to the Congress party, which failed to win a single seat, continuing its downward trend in the region. The AAP’s fall from power has set the stage for the BJP to take charge of the capital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been away on an official visit, is expected to return by tonight and will participate in the BJP’s parliamentary board meeting to finalize the new Chief Minister. BJP leaders have indicated that an announcement will be made soon after, likely before the end of the day.

Among the leading contenders for the CM position are Parvesh Verma, who is considered a strong BJP face in Delhi, and former Delhi BJP presidents Vijender Gupta and Satish Upadhyay. Sources have suggested that while these leaders are frontrunners, the BJP’s national leadership might surprise everyone with a fresh face who fits the requirements for leading Delhi during a time of high public expectations.

Once the Chief Minister is named, the swearing-in ceremony will be held shortly after, as the BJP looks to move swiftly to take control of the Delhi government. The new leadership will focus on fulfilling the promises made during the election campaign, prioritizing governance and addressing the concerns of Delhi’s residents.

With the AAP out of power and the Congress failing to make an impact, the BJP is expected to maintain a strong presence in Delhi politics over the coming years. The party’s legislative party meeting tomorrow will be a significant step in shaping the future of Delhi’s administration.
