Ulhasnagar : Bollywood actress Neha Chawla was felicitated by Rashtriya Jansewa Sanghatna (RJS) on the occasion of the 194th birth anniversary of social reformer and educationist Savitribai Phule. The event, organized in collaboration with the Vithalwadi Police Station under the leadership of Shri Vinod Barhe, President of RJS’s Ulhasnagar unit, celebrated the contribution of women to society and paid tribute to the revolutionary legacy of Savitribai Phule.
Held at Swami Isrardas Hall at Ulhasnagar, the program witnessed the presence of over 300 participants, including more than 200 domestic workers who were honoured for their resilience and dedication. The program was graced by prominent personalities, including NCP-SP leader Mahesh Tapasey, Shri Pramod Tale, Shri Imran Khan, Shri Vikas Singh singer Nisha Bhagat, Medical officer Dr. Sanjivani Kamble, reputed astrologist Shri Shrikant Hajare, Adv. Ashwini Kamble, Senior Police Inspector Shri Anil Padwal and may more prominent dignitaries.

Mahesh Tapasey’s Inspiring Words
NCP-SP leader Mahesh Tapasey, speaking at the event, emphasized the timeless relevance of Savitribai Phule’s work. “Savitribai Phule was not just a reformer; she was a revolutionary who dared to challenge the shackles of patriarchy and casteism. Her dedication to educating women laid the foundation for a more inclusive society. Today, her legacy inspires millions to stand up for justice, equality, and education,” he said.
Born in 1831, Savitribai Phule is hailed as India’s first female teacher and a pioneer of women’s education. Alongside her husband Jyotirao Phule, she established India’s first school for girls in Pune in 1848. She also founded the Mahila Seva Mandal to promote women’s empowerment and fought against oppressive practices like child marriage, Sati, and untouchability. Her efforts not only revolutionized education but also laid the groundwork for social reform in India.
Senior Police Inspector Shri Anil Padwal addressed the gathering, emphasizing the police department’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of women. “The safety of women is our utmost priority. We are duty-bound to protect every citizen and ensure a secure environment where women can live and thrive without fear,” he assured.
