MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, 54, is recuperating after being attacked by an intruder at his Bandra residence in Mumbai during the early hours of January 16, 2025. The assailant inflicted six stab wounds, with two being deep, including one perilously close to Khan’s spine.
The incident occurred around 2:30 am when an unidentified individual entered Khan’s home and confronted a female domestic worker. Upon hearing the commotion, Khan intervened to protect his employee. In the ensuing struggle, the intruder attacked both with a knife before fleeing the scene.
Khan was promptly transported to Lilavati Hospital by his son, Ibrahim Ali Khan. Dr. Niraj Uttamani, the hospital’s Chief Operating Officer, reported that Khan underwent surgery led by neurosurgeon Dr. Nitin Dange and cosmetic surgeon Dr. Leena Jain. A fragment of the knife was found near his spine, necessitating careful extraction. Despite the severity of his injuries, Khan is currently out of danger and under close medical supervision.
Khan’s wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two children were present in the house during the attack but were unharmed. The family has requested privacy during this time. In an official statement, Khan’s team said, “There was an attempted burglary at Mr. Saif Ali Khan’s residence. He is currently in hospital undergoing surgery. We request the media and fans to be patient. It is a police matter. We will keep you updated on the situation.”
Mumbai Police have launched an investigation into the incident. CCTV footage reveals no unauthorized entries into the building after midnight, leading authorities to suspect that the assailant may have gained access earlier and concealed themselves within the premises. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
The attack has sparked concerns about security in Mumbai, particularly in high-profile areas like Bandra. Political figures and celebrities have called for enhanced safety measures. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi criticized the state government, stating, “What a shame that Mumbai sees another high-profile attempt on life… This attack on Saif Ali Khan raises serious questions about Mumbai Police and the Home Minister.”
Saif Ali Khan, son of former Indian cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and actress Sharmila Tagore, has been a prominent figure in Bollywood, featuring in over 70 films and television series. His recent projects include the successful web series “Tandav” and the film “Bhoot Police.” The industry and fans alike are hopeful for his swift recovery.
As the investigation continues, authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of security, even in seemingly safe neighborhoods.
