MUMBAI: At 65, Boman Irani is breaking stereotypes and proving that it’s never too late to chase your dreams. The versatile actor, known for his iconic roles in films like Munnabhai M.B.B.S and 3 Idiots, is now making his directorial debut with The Mehta Boys. In a recent interview, Irani shared his thoughts on age, ambition, and the importance of following one’s passion on their own terms.
Irani, who began his acting career at 44 after working as a waiter, photographer, and managing his mother’s bakery, believes that timelines are personal and shouldn’t be dictated by societal norms. “Since childhood, I always thought that someday I would be a director. I don’t understand the stereotype that a person becomes an actor at 25 and a director at 35. I don’t let other people decide my diary and timeline. I’ll do it when I’m ready,” he said.
While Irani doesn’t advocate waiting until 65 to pursue one’s dreams, he emphasizes that everyone’s journey is unique. “For me, this was the way to go. I don’t think it’s a big deal,” he added, highlighting the importance of self-belief and perseverance.
The Mehta Boys, a coming-of-age drama, marks Irani’s transition from acting to directing. The film is already generating buzz, with fans eagerly awaiting his fresh perspective behind the camera. Irani’s journey serves as an inspiration, reminding us that age is no barrier to achieving greatness.
