BRICS Nations United Against Terrorism at 11th Parliamentary Forum; India Takes Over Chairmanship for 2026

New Delhi/Brasilia, 6 June 2025 – The 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum concluded successfully in Brasilia, Brazil, marking a significant step in global parliamentary collaboration. Delegations from all 10 BRICS nations — India, Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Iran, UAE, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Indonesia — participated actively in discussions that addressed critical global challenges and paved the way for unified parliamentary action.

The Indian delegation was led by Shri Om Birla, Hon’ble Speaker of the Lok Sabha, accompanied by a distinguished parliamentary team. The two-day forum (4–5 June 2025) witnessed intensive deliberations on pressing global issues including terrorism, Artificial Intelligence (AI), sustainable development, global peace, and economic cooperation.




🔶 Strong Condemnation of Pahalgam Terror Attack

A major highlight of the forum was the unanimous and strong condemnation of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. The incident drew sharp responses from participating nations, who collectively voiced their solidarity with India. The joint declaration issued at the end of the Forum reflected a unified stance against terrorism, with all parliaments agreeing to pursue a zero-tolerance policy.

Shri Om Birla called for a comprehensive global framework that targets not only terrorist actors but also the financial and technological ecosystems that support them. He advocated:

  • Enhanced intelligence sharing

  • Cooperation in investigation and judicial proceedings

  • Strict action against funding sources of terrorist outfits

  • Monitoring the misuse of emerging technologies like AI


🔶 Acknowledgment of India’s Leadership and Policies

India’s positions and proposals were widely appreciated and incorporated into the forum’s final joint resolution. Shri Birla reiterated Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s unwavering stance on terrorism and emphasized that firm, befitting responses are necessary to counter global threats.

India’s appeal for global parliamentary dialogue, responsible technology use, and balanced international development was met with enthusiasm by the member parliaments. The Indian delegation emerged as a key thought leader during the conference.


🔶 India to Host 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in 2026

In a major development, India assumed the chairmanship of the next BRICS Parliamentary Forum. The formal announcement was made during the closing ceremony on 6 June 2025. The mantle of leadership was officially passed to Shri Om Birla, marking India’s elevated responsibility in shaping the parliamentary roadmap of BRICS.

With the chairmanship, India will host the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in 2026, bringing together leaders to further strengthen international cooperation and solidarity among emerging economies.
