A fiery rivalry is brewing between Jasprit Bumrah and Australia’s Sam Konstas during the ongoing India-Australia series. The latest chapter unfolded on Day 1 of the 5th Test in Sydney, after a heated exchange between the two players, with Bumrah ultimately having the last laugh.
The drama began in the previous Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where Konstas had put on a ruthless display, hitting Bumrah for 32 runs in just two overs. Despite Bumrah feeling he could have dismissed Konstas multiple times, the Australian youngster’s aggressive approach left the pacer rattled.
In the second innings, Bumrah made a strong comeback, dismissing Konstas cheaply, but it was the third round in Sydney that truly caught the attention of fans. As Usman Khawaja, taking strike, delayed Bumrah’s run-up in the final over of the day, Bumrah’s frustration grew. Konstas, standing at the non-striker’s end, decided to rile up the India pacer, leading to a fiery exchange between the two.
The confrontation was short-lived, however, as the umpires stepped in to defuse the tension. But Bumrah wasn’t done yet. With the very next delivery, he got Khawaja out caught behind, and instead of celebrating, he turned to Konstas, charging at him to rub the moment in. Konstas had earlier hit Bumrah for a four, but the India pacer’s strike proved to be the final word in their ongoing battle.
Commentator Adam Gilchrist was quick to remark, “Bumrah teaches Konstas a tough lesson in his second Test match,” after the dramatic moment.
