BEED: The murder of Massajog village sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh has sparked political tensions in Maharashtra. Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Ambadas Danve, has called for shifting the trial outside Beed district to ensure impartiality, citing concerns over potential local influence.
Deshmukh, aged 45, was reportedly abducted and murdered due to disputes linked to windmill projects in the region. Investigations have unveiled a nexus between politics and crime, with allegations involving Walmik Karad, an associate of NCP minister Dhananjay Munde. While Karad surrendered in an extortion case, his alleged role in the murder remains under scrutiny.
The Maharashtra government has responded by forming a 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to ensure a transparent inquiry. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also introduced artificial intelligence technologies to expedite the investigation.
This high-profile case has become a flashpoint for political rivalry, with opposition leaders accusing the government of shielding individuals with political connections. Danve’s demand for a trial relocation reflects a growing call for justice and accountability.
