Chandramouli Biswas, a renowned bassist known for his work with the bands Fossils, Golok, and Zombie Cage Control, tragically passed away by suicide at the age of 48. His body was found at his rented residence near Wellington in Kolkata on Sunday evening.
Golok lead vocalist, Mohul Chakraborty, discovered Biswas’ body after being unable to reach him by phone. Concerned for his well-being, Chakraborty and a close friend went to his home, where they made the heartbreaking discovery. In an emotional statement, Chakraborty described Biswas as a significant loss to the Bengal music scene.
Police reports indicate that Biswas had been battling depression for several years, a struggle compounded by financial difficulties. Friends and relatives confirmed that he had been undergoing treatment for his mental health. Authorities also found a suicide note stating that no one was responsible for his death. The note is under examination, and the body has been sent for post-mortem.
Chandramouli was a key figure in the band Fossils, joining in 2000 as a guitarist before transitioning to bassist. He remained with the band until 2018, when health issues led him to leave. Fossils manager Rupsha Dasgupta expressed her shock at his untimely passing, remembering him as not only a brilliant musician but also a cheerful and sociable person. She highlighted that his departure was a great loss, especially as he had a dedicated fanbase.
Chandramouli, a former engineering student from JU, had left his career in engineering to pursue his passion for music. His death has left a profound impact on his bandmates and the music community. Fossils members, who were en route to a show in Kalyani, were devastated upon hearing the news.
Chandramouli is survived by his parents. His passing serves as a somber reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support.
