The Chennai Metro Line 3 has taken another step toward its large-scale development as ETA Engineering Pvt Ltd has officially emerged as the lowest bidder for the major electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and VAC works contract under Phase II of the Chennai Metro Rail Project. The 45.8 km-long Corridor 3 will connect Madhavaram to SIPCOT 2, serving as one of the most vital stretches in the upcoming metro expansion.

The technical bidding process began earlier this year, with CMRL inviting tenders that carried a completion deadline of 2,170 days. On April 30, 2025, four companies submitted their bids: ETA Engineering, Blue Star Limited, Jakson Limited, and Universal MEP Projects & Engineering Services. After careful technical evaluation and financial review, ETA Engineering Pvt Ltd secured the contract with the most competitive bid.

Phase II of the Chennai Metro spans a total of 118.9 km, divided into three main corridors aimed at improving connectivity across Chennai and its suburbs. The Chennai Metro Line 3 (Purple Line) will cover 45.8 km, with 19.1 km elevated and 26.7 km underground, linking key business and residential hubs from Madhavaram to SIPCOT 2.
The other corridors include:

- Line 5 (Red Line): Madhavaram – Sholinganallur (47 km)
