Chhattisgarh Naxalite Encounter: 31 Rebels, 2 Cops Killed

Breaking News

Chhattisgarh: In a major development, a Chhattisgarh Naxalite encounter in Bijapur district has resulted in the deaths of 31 Naxalites and two police officers. Security forces carried out the operation in the dense forests of the Indravati region after receiving intelligence about a significant Maoist presence. The encounter marks one of the most significant successes against Naxal insurgents this year, bringing the total number of rebels killed in the state to 81 in 2025.

According to police reports, a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched an operation in the Maoist stronghold. When the forces advanced, they were met with heavy gunfire, leading to a fierce gun battle. The Chhattisgarh Naxalite encounter lasted several hours, resulting in significant casualties on the insurgents’ side.

Authorities have stated that the operation led to the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition, including automatic rifles and explosives. While the identities of the slain Naxalites are still being confirmed, officials believe that several high-ranking members of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) were among those killed.

This latest Chhattisgarh Naxalite encounter follows a series of similar operations in the region. Just last month, security forces killed 16 Maoists in Gariband district and eight more in Bijapur. The consistent success of these operations signals a significant weakening of the Naxalite movement in Chhattisgarh, which has long been a stronghold of the insurgents.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the security forces for their bravery, stating that the government’s efforts to eliminate Naxalism are yielding results. “In the direction of making India Naxal-free, the security forces have achieved a big success in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh,” he said. The sacrifices of the two fallen officers were also acknowledged, with tributes pouring in from political leaders and officials.

The Maoist insurgency in India has been active for decades, with the rebels claiming to fight for the rights of marginalized communities. However, their violent tactics, including ambushes and attacks on civilians and security personnel, have led to widespread condemnation. The Indian government has intensified counter-insurgency efforts, focusing on both military action and socio-economic development in Naxal-affected regions.

The success of the latest Chhattisgarh Naxalite encounter is expected to further weaken the insurgent network in central India. Security officials have indicated that operations will continue in other Maoist-affected areas to ensure that the remaining rebels are neutralized.

As the situation unfolds, the government remains committed to restoring peace in the region. While the elimination of 31 Naxalites marks a significant victory, the loss of two brave officers is a reminder of the challenges in combating insurgency. The coming months will be crucial in determining whether these intensified operations will lead to a lasting decline in Maoist activities.
