The Congress party has nominated Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Manish Tewari, Randeep Surjewala, and Sukhdeo Bhagat to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) tasked with examining the ‘One Nation, One Election’ bills.

 

These bills, introduced in the Lok Sabha on December 17, 2024, aim to synchronize elections across the country.

 

During the parliamentary session, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the proposed legislation as “anti-constitutional” and detrimental to the nation’s federal structure.

 

The Trinamool Congress has also nominated Kalyan Banerjee and Saket Gokhale to the JPC.

The introduction of these bills has sparked significant debate, with opposition parties expressing concerns over potential impacts on federalism and the autonomy of state governments.
