Breaking News

Chennai and parts of northern Tamil Nadu are on high alert as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal approaches the coast. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts the system to make landfall between Puducherry and Nellore, close to Chennai, in the early hours of October 17. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across Tamil Nadu, particularly in districts like Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Kancheepuram. Wind speeds are predicted to reach 60 km/h, with coastal areas bracing for storm surges.

The Tamil Nadu government has taken precautionary measures, issuing school and office closures in several northern districts. Waterlogging has already disrupted transport, leading to train and flight cancellations. Fishermen have been advised to avoid the sea, and emergency services are on high alert with disaster management teams prepared to respond.

As Chennai faces potential flooding, residents are urged to stay indoors and follow official advisories for their safety.
