The Election Commission has announced that Delhi will conduct its assembly elections in a single phase on February 5, with vote counting slated for February 8. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar detailed the timeline:

  • Notification Date: January 10
  • Nomination Deadline: January 17
  • Scrutiny of Nominations: January 18
  • Withdrawal of Nominations: January 20
  • Polling Date: February 5
  • Counting of Votes: February 8
  • Completion of Election Process: February 10

Kumar emphasized the integrity of India’s electoral system, stating, “India is the gold standard of elections… there is no scope for any irregularity in the commission.”

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, is aiming for a third consecutive term in Delhi. The final electoral roll indicates 1,55,24,858 registered voters, a 1.09% increase.

Addressing concerns about voter roll deletions, Kumar assured that rigorous procedures are followed, leaving “no room for any manipulation.” He also dismissed allegations of electronic voting machine (EVM) tampering, asserting their reliability and stating, “EVMs are foolproof devices for counting. Allegations of tampering are baseless.”

The Chief Election Commissioner further clarified that altering voter turnout data is “impossible,” noting that all processes are transparent and verifiable.
