Delhi Police Nabs Thief With Five Stolen Phones Amid New Year’s Eve Security Drive

In a significant bust during New Year celebrations, the Delhi Police arrested a 35-year-old thief, Vipin Kumar, recovering five stolen mobile phones and an auto used in the crimes. The arrest was made by the Kishangarh Police team in the South West District at Karawal Nagar.

As part of heightened security measures for New Year’s Eve on December 31, 2024, police personnel were strategically deployed at key pickets in the Kishangarh area. A checkpoint near Shaheed Jeet Singh Marg intercepted an auto at around 8:00 PM. When the driver attempted to flee, the alert police team apprehended him. Upon searching the suspect, five stolen phones were discovered in his jacket pocket.

Two victims of phone thefts also reported incidents to the police station.

  • Incident 1: Ruchi Kalia, a Vasant Kunj resident, reported that her phone was stolen in Munirka Market while she was shopping. She recounted being bumped into by an unknown individual, after which she realized her phone was missing.
  • Incident 2: Aditya Kumar from Chhatarpur reported a similar theft near Munirka Metro Station. He identified Vipin Kumar as the thief when he came to the station to file his complaint.

Police registered FIRs for both cases under sections 303(2) and 317(2) BNS and arrested Vipin Kumar. Two of the stolen phones have been returned to the respective complainants, while investigations are ongoing to connect the remaining three phones to other thefts.
