Department of Food and Public Distribution Strong Observation of Swachhotsav under ‘Swachhata Hi Seva-2025’

Under the nationwide cleanliness campaign ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2025,’ the Department of Food and Public Distribution actively engaged in multiple activities to promote cleanliness, environmental awareness, and community participation from 17th September to 2nd October. This initiative integrates service commitment with environmental responsibility, reflecting the Government of India’s ongoing drive towards a cleaner and healthier nation.

Swachhta Samvad: Cleanliness Dialogue

On 23rd September 2025, a cleanliness dialogue titled ‘Swachhta Samvad’ was organized within the Department. Dr. N. B. Majumdar, Honorary Director General of Sulabh International Social Service Organization, shared insightful experiences stressing the importance of environmental cleanliness. He highlighted the impact of environmental degradation on global warming, leading to unseasonal rains and adverse effects in hilly terrains, emphasizing the intertwined nature of cleanliness and climate stability.



Outreach and On-ground Activities

The Department’s officers and officials visited the mini-market near Krishi Bhawan on 24th September 2025 to raise awareness about cleanliness among street vendors. They undertook a cleanliness drive to clean the market area and distributed dustbins to promote proper waste segregation and disposal, encouraging vendors to maintain hygienic surroundings.

Cultural Engagement: Poem Recitation and Nukkad Natak

A poem recitation competition themed on ‘Swachhotsav’ was held on 26th September 2025. Department employees composed and recited poems embracing the campaign’s progress over the years and inspiring collective efforts to maintain a garbage-free environment. On 29th September, a Nukkad Natak (street play) was performed by department staff at the Krishi Bhawan parking lot and common areas. The play creatively addressed issues like littering, segregation of garbage, zero waste initiatives, and inculcating cleanliness habits among children, effectively conveying the importance of sanitation beyond homes to the broader community.

Eco-Friendly Initiatives by FCI Zonal Office (East)

On 26th September 2025, the Food Corporation of India (FCI), Zonal Office (East), celebrated Eco-Friendly and Zero Waste Day. The office promoted the use of paper and cloth bags over plastic, placed labelled dustbins for proper waste segregation, and encouraged sustainable waste management practices to foster an environmentally responsible work culture.
