New Delhi: In a significant step toward modernizing cross-border payments, the Department of Posts (DoP), Ministry of Communications, Government of India, and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL)—the international arm of National Payments Corporation of India—signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) on 24 July 2025. The partnership aims to revolutionize inward remittances by integrating Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with the Universal Postal Union Interconnection Platform (UPU-IP).
The official NDA was exchanged between Mr. LK Dash, Deputy Director General (International Relations and Global Business), Department of Posts, and Mr. Ritesh Shukla, CEO, NPCI International Payments Limited, during a formal ceremony.
Affordable and Secure Cross-Border Transfers by NPCI
The collaboration promises to bring affordable, secure, and efficient remittance services to Indian beneficiaries, especially in remote areas underserved by traditional banking. Through UPI-UPU-IP integration, the cost of sending money will be significantly reduced—offering a much-needed relief to Indian workers abroad.
The robust UPI framework combined with the trusted postal network will ensure high security for transactions, instilling confidence among both senders and receivers.
Enhancing Financial Inclusion through Postal Reach
This initiative will empower the Indian diaspora, especially in geographies with limited banking infrastructure. With India’s extensive postal network and real-time UPI capabilities, families back home can receive remittances swiftly and conveniently.
Key benefits of the partnership include:
-
Lower remittance costs
-
Wider reach through global postal systems
-
Secure digital transactions
-
Real-time processing and delivery

Echoing the sentiment, Mr. Ritesh Shukla added:
“NIPL is committed to expanding UPI’s global footprint. This collaboration with DoP will bridge remittance gaps and advance financial inclusion for millions of Indians.”
Conclusion
This DoP–NIPL partnership not only aligns with India’s vision for Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) but also strengthens its position in global financial innovation. As cross-border remittances become faster, cheaper, and safer, this initiative has the potential to reshape the future of money transfers to India, ensuring that no region or citizen is left behind.
