Prime Minister Narendra Modi Unveils Development Projects Worth Rs48,520 Crore in Karakat, Bihar

Karakat, Bihar — In a landmark visit to Karakat, Bihar, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and dedicated to the nation multiple development projects totaling over ₹48,520 crore. This monumental initiative marks a significant leap toward transforming Bihar into a model state of development, security, and prosperity.

Historic Announcement and Unprecedented Investment

Addressing a massive public gathering, Prime Minister Modi expressed deep gratitude to the people of Bihar for their unwavering support and affection. Highlighting the importance of this visit, he remarked that it is a privilege to accelerate Bihar’s development from such a sacred land, known for its historical and cultural significance.



Among the notable announcements was the inauguration of the new terminal building of Patna Airport, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the people. The upgraded terminal is now equipped to handle over one crore passengers annually, signaling a major enhancement in regional air connectivity. PM Modi also mentioned a ₹1,400 crore investment being made in Bihta Airport to further strengthen aviation infrastructure.


Security, Valor, and Operation Sindoor

The Prime Minister paid homage to India’s armed forces, particularly highlighting Operation Sindoor, a swift and decisive military retaliation following a terror attack in Pahalgam. “Those who sat in Pakistan and destroyed the Sindoor of our sisters, our army turned their hideouts into ruins,” said PM Modi. He emphasized the valor of Indian forces and the BSF, especially praising Sub-Inspector Shri Imtiaz from Bihar, martyred in the line of duty.

“This is the new India—an India of immense power and resilience,” declared PM Modi, stating that the country’s response was seen and felt across the globe. He further asserted that the operation was only a glimpse of India’s strategic strength.


Eradicating Maoist Threats and Empowering Villages

PM Modi recalled the Naxalite violence that once plagued regions like Sasaram and Kaimur. He praised the joint efforts of the central and state governments—especially under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar—in bringing peace and development to these areas. From over 125 Naxal-affected districts in 2014, only 18 remain today, signifying a remarkable turnaround.

“Our goal is to ensure peace, security, education, and development reach every village without any hindrance,” PM Modi asserted, expressing confidence in eradicating Maoist violence completely in the near future.


Transforming Bihar’s Infrastructure with Development Projects

Prime Minister Modi detailed the robust transformation underway in Bihar’s infrastructure. Several major road projects were inaugurated or launched, including:

  • Four-Laning of the Patna–Arrah–Sasaram section (NH-119A)

  • Six-Laning of Varanasi–Ranchi–Kolkata Highway (NH-319B)

  • Ramnagar–Kacchi Dargah stretch (NH-119D)

  • A new Ganga Bridge between Buxar and Bharauli

  • Four-laning of Patna–Gaya–Dobhi section (NH-22)

  • Gopalganj Town Elevated Highway (NH-27)

Together, these projects aim to bolster regional connectivity, boost trade, and create employment for thousands of youths.

In the railway sector, the third rail line between Son Nagar and Mohammad Ganj was dedicated to the nation, with continued multi-tracking work progressing in Chhapra, Katihar, and Muzaffarpur. Over 100 trains now halt at Sasaram, enhancing the area’s railway footprint.


Powering the State: Thermal and Solar Initiatives

The foundation stone was laid for the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project Stage-II (3×800 MW) in Aurangabad district, valued at ₹29,930 crore. This project is expected to contribute 1,500 MW to Bihar’s electricity needs, supporting industrial and household consumption.

Additionally, a solar park at Kajra is being developed under PM-KUSUM, enabling farmers to earn from solar energy. These steps form part of a larger vision to make Bihar a green energy hub.


Empowering Farmers and Promoting Local Produce

Focusing on agricultural upliftment, the Prime Minister celebrated the creation of the Makhana Board and the granting of the GI tag to Bihar’s Makhana, immensely benefiting local farmers. The upcoming National Institute for Food Processing in Bihar, announced in this year’s budget, aims to modernize agro-processing in the state.

PM Modi also mentioned the recent Cabinet decision to raise the MSP for 14 Kharif crops, including paddy, ensuring farmers get better prices and increased incomes.


Welfare, Women Empowerment, and Social Justice

Targeting opposition parties for years of neglect, PM Modi emphasized that his government has brought a new dawn of social justice, empowering marginalized communities with:

  • Four crore pucca houses

  • Tap water connections in 12 crore households

  • Free medical treatment for elderly citizens

  • Monthly ration distribution

  • ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme benefiting over three crore women

He launched a scathing critique against previous regimes, accusing them of showcasing Bihar’s poverty to foreign delegations rather than working for its progress.

Highlighting Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Samagra Seva Abhiyan, the PM praised the ongoing efforts in Bihar to ensure 100% welfare scheme coverage, particularly among Dalits, Mahadalits, backward classes, and the poor through over 30,000 outreach camps.


Vision for a Developed Bihar

Concluding his address, the Prime Minister invoked the legacy of Baba Saheb Ambedkar, Karpoori Thakur, Babu Jagjivan Ram, and Jayaprakash Narayan, reiterating the goal of building a developed Bihar for a developed India.

He remarked, “Whenever Bihar has progressed, India has reached new heights globally,” expressing confidence that Bihar will continue to lead the nation towards prosperity.
