Mumbai: The Maharashtra cabinet, led by Devendra Fadnavis, is set for an expansion on December the 14th. This development is pivotal as the Mahayuti alliance—comprising BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP—prepares to finalize ministerial portfolios and governance strategies.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently traveled to Delhi for a courtesy visit, where he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. While these meetings were described as routine, they align with the timing of the cabinet expansion, hinting at critical discussions regarding portfolio allocations and governance priorities.
According to sources, BJP is expected to retain the Home department, while the Ajit Pawar-led NCP may continue handling the Finance ministry. The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena could retain the Urban Development department and is likely to secure the Revenue portfolio. The cabinet expansion seeks to maintain a balance of power among the alliance partners, with BJP likely receiving 21-22 ministerial posts, Shiv Sena 11-12, and NCP 9-10.
The special three-day legislative session beginning December 9 has elected the Speaker which was unopposed, a trust vote for the government, and the Governor’s address. The winter session of the legislature will follow in Nagpur from December 16, focusing on key policy matters.
This reshuffle is seen as a move to reinforce administrative stability and ensure efficient governance under the Mahayuti alliance.
