Kochi: The Indian Navy is organizing the ‘Emerging Leaders Panel Discussion’ under the aegis of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) on August 27-28, 2025, at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi. This two-day event will engage young naval officers from 18 IONS member nations, focusing on regional maritime security and cooperation across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

Background of IONS
IONS, conceived by the Indian Navy in 2008, serves as a forum to enhance maritime cooperation among navies of the littoral states of the Indian Ocean. The initiative provides an open and inclusive platform for dialogue on regionally relevant maritime issues. Earlier this year, the Indian Navy hosted the IONS Working Group Meeting on Maritime Security (IWG-MARSEC) in New Delhi, reinforcing the collective commitment of member navies to ensuring a safe and secure Indian Ocean.
